Between culture and botany, Summer in the Garden is a green and creative interlude in the heart of Meyrin. The summer event takes place at the Alpine Botanical Garden and mixes through its environment and its programming botanical discovery and artistic wandering. If the Alex Reed of honor of this 2022 edition is the artist of Meyrin origin Pascale Favre, the programming is intended to be multidisciplinary. On the program, visual arts, sound creations, dance, reading, DIY or environmental awareness, the Alpine Botanical Garden inspires.

Go green

It is a haven of greenery, and an oasis of freshness in the city in summer, which turns into a cultural haven during the summer. Taking place in the Alpine Botanical Garden in Meyrin, Summer in the Garden links nature and the arts through its multidisciplinary programme. From June 11 to September 11, the park, which received the Schulthess Prize for Swiss Heritage Gardens in 2019, is organizing its summer around the Botanica event on the impact of climate change on alpine plants. Culture and the arts then come to meet these questions and the central theme of nature, but also the richness of local biodiversity. As part of Botanica, conferences, an exhibition, but also walks and workshops tell us regarding the plants of the Alps and teach us regarding their many riches and secrets. Awareness of the environment, central to the municipality of Meyrin, in which culture comes to mingle, and this in all its forms.

Cultivation in the garden

At the turn of a beautiful plant, we set off to discover the visual arts that take possession of the place during the summer. Alex Reed artist, having participated in a residence in the gardens last spring, Pascale Favre shares her view of alpine plants through her creations. Drawings, but also installation and writing that have always been inspired by alpine nature that this resident of Meyrin reproduces in India ink and watercolour. Beyond this exhibition born following the artist’s residency, cultural events jostle in the Alpine Botanical Garden. The visual arts take possession of the premises, with drawing workshops, but also the collective Oiseaux sans tête which will enchant visitors with its mask-making workshops and its photo studio far from tradition. The music will also be there to make the beautiful plants ripple with the Undertown at the helm and their contemporary urban music, but above all local. During the summer, everyone will find what they are looking for with eclectic musical styles, from Lynn Maring’s psychedelic indie rock to Lakna’s RnB, via the soul and rap sounds of Evita Koné.

The melody is different, the voice taking all the place during the readings and stories that will punctuate the season and tell us regarding nature. Finally, what would a green bath be without a moment of pure peace? Dance and well-being have pride of place in this program through a show, but also of course workshops to spend the summer with your feet rooted in the ground, one more beautiful plant among the wonders of the Alpine Botanical Garden in Meyrin.
