The first generation of Renault Twingo was an unstoppable success, but in its second cycle the design changed and that might cost it.
When you talk regarding Renault Twingothe first image that comes to mind is the model of your first generation of, between 1993 and 2007. That last year was prepared to give way to a new commercial cycle, and from then on the story of the small urban car was not the same.
Although its peculiar design drew attention from the beginning, even because of its strangeness, it managed to become a popular model and to this day well remembered in its first version. In Colombia, it is very common to see him roll through the streets in a considerable number of copies.
Recently a post on Facebook revealed a sketch of what the Twingo might have been second generation, in a design that was not finally applied and was changed to the one we know and evolved to the present, even reaching a electric version.
Could it have been a better Renault Twingo?
This revealed sketch led to the reflection that if might have been a better design for the Renault Twingo, since it is obvious that he tried to preserve many of the elements of the first generation model, contrary to the marketed vehicle that noticeably changed.
In this non-materialized version of the French car, continuity was still given to the curvilinear shapes but more stylized. The bonnet was subtly lengthened carrying rounded headlights in a new style. Round explorer lights and decorations on the bottom of the side doors.
As much as many would like it, Twingo took another course in 2007 and presented a second generation with Clio-like traits, opting for some square shapes and adapted to the trends of the segment. The most important novelty at that time was a GT version.
The dimensions included 3.6 meters in length, 1.7 meters wide and 1.4 meters high. It was equipped with 15-inch wheels and new aesthetic details such as silver mirrors and chrome inserts. 1.2 liter turbocharged engine 100 horsepower.
Still, it is agreed that the first Renault Twingo is second to none. His production reached the top of the 2.6 million units during the period of validity in the market. In personal opinions, it is considered a car versatile, practical and resistant.
