MUMBAI: Delhi has once once more topped the world’s most polluted cities. The new finding is in the study ‘Air Pollution and Health in Cities’ by State of Global Air. Three cities from India are among the top 20 most polluted cities in the world. Kolkata is second in the list. Mumbai is at 14th position.
The city of Kano in Nigeria is at the third position and the city of Lima in Peru is at the fourth position. Bangladesh’s Dhaka and Indonesia’s Jakarta are at the fifth and sixth positions. Apart from India, three cities in China have also made it to the list. The cities in the list are Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.
A total of 7,000 cities in the world were studied. Among them, 103 cities were considered for ranking. The study also points out that many people in the world die due to health problems caused by environmental pollution.
Beijing is the leading city in emitting nitrogen dioxide. The study also points out that smoke from nuclear power plants and vehicles is the main cause of air pollution in the world.
