Several studies have looked at the co-occurrence of dementia, in particular Alzheimer, certain disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), microbiota, dysbiosis, or use of medications commonly used in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease. These observations support the concept of the “gut-brain axis,” which suggests an association of GIT-related features with central nervous system (CNS) disorders, including Depression and Parkinson.
