Burkina: The government condemns hate speech on social networks
Ouagadougou, August 17, 2022 (AIB) – The government on Wednesday condemned the hateful remarks of certain fellow citizens on the networks which put a strain on social cohesion and living together.
“The recent audios that have been circulating for a few days on social networks, in whatsapp groups, remind us of the need to act resolutely and firmly before the irreparable happens,” said government spokesman Lionel. Bilgo.
He indicated that “the State unreservedly and unequivocally condemns these hateful, subversive, dangerous and unacceptable speeches” by certain citizens, in a rich and diversified country like Burkina Faso.
Mr. Bilgo spoke Wednesday in Ouagadougou, following the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers.
According to him, “these hateful remarks (are) of an extreme gravity which have no equivalence that the excesses of the radio “Mille Colline” of Rwanda which caused the genocide of 1994″.
He thinks that Burkina Faso must learn lessons from the Rwandan genocide which was one of the worst of humanity.
Lionel Bilgo underlined that the tone and the words used (in the audios) give cold to the back and testify to the seriousness of the situation which might jeopardize living together in the country.
For Lionel Bilgo, the terrorists take advantage of the fragility, division and opposition of the Burkinabè people to do their dirty work.
He therefore urged the sons and daughters of the country, to the sacred union to overcome the terrorist hydra.
“All the legal consequences will be drawn from these assumed remarks. We need to deconstruct these hateful words that undermine social cohesion and national unity,” he added.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been plagued by terrorist attacks which have caused the death of hundreds of people, resulted in more than two million displaced persons and the closure of many schools and health establishments throughout the national territory.
