New York City confirmed two cases of West Nile virus infection

One each from Queens and Brooklyn
The number of samples also increased significantly compared to the previous year

New York City has confirmed two confirmed cases of West Nile virus, the city’s health department said on the 16th.

According to the Department of Health, there was one confirmed case each from Queens and Brooklyn.

He added that 1068 West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes were found in citywide sample testing, a significant increase from 779 in the same period last year.

Asiwin, director of the Basan City Health Department, said, “August and September are the most prevalent times for the West Nile virus, so caution is required when going out.” should be used to reduce the risk of viral infection.

In particular, it is explained that measures for prevention are important as no vaccine has been developed for West Nile virus so far.

Most cases of West Nile virus infection are mild, asymptomatic, and spontaneously heal.

Severe infections are rare, but the elderly may experience symptoms such as optic nerve, cranial nerve, and polyneuritis, so caution is required.
