“You did not engage in any serious therapeutic measures prior to incarceration. You do not produce any information leading to the belief that your care might begin during the release measure that you are requesting,” reads the decision of the Commission québécoise des libérations conditionnelles concerning Bryan McCormick.

McCormick, 29, was sentenced to six months in prison earlier this summer for repeatedly punching, choking and threatening to kill Mr.me Rioux, even when she was pregnant with their child.

Violent and controlling

Seeking to control the influencer, he had attacked her between 13 and 15 times in a single year. Among other things, he squeezed her arms, pushed her head once morest the walls, in addition to uttering threats to kill her, burn her alive, or even shoot her in the head.

Violent, McCormick was not shy regarding destroying property, or hitting the walls hard enough to puncture them.

“The violence you have deployed is not situational or circumstantial,” the commissioners noted during the hearing on Tuesday. You have knowingly chosen violence once morest your intimate partner as a means of controlling your marital environment. The offenses are objectively serious, likely to leave significant consequences for the victim.

Too dangerous

Despite his gestures, McCormick claimed yesterday that he ‘is not a violent person’. But if he affirmed that he “takes full responsibility” for his actions, he then had mixed words. Among other things, he claimed that an injury to the lip of his ex-spouse had been caused simply “by giving her a kiss”.

“You are tackling and saying there are two sides to the coin,” the decision reads.

Thus, even if an evaluator recommended an early release at the sixth of the sentence, the commissioners considered that McCormick should remain incarcerated, so that he demonstrates a “sincere motivation to invest a real process of change”.

“Considering all the elements of the file […]the Commission considers that the risk of recidivism that you present is unacceptable taking into account the need for the protection of the public,” the decision states.
