Eiskanal Igls: Renovation only with minimal cost variant

“2024 is the end of the terrain in Igls,” explains StR Elisabeth Mayr at the municipal council meeting in May 2022. The renovation of the bobsleigh and toboggan run in Igls is necessary to maintain sporting operations. A homo-alloy (Editor’s note: acceptance of the track in the sporting area) of the track in its current condition is not possible. The state of Tyrol has approved a subsidy of 9.14 million. The master plan for the bobsleigh and toboggan run requested by the operating company OSVI is not possible.

INNSBRUCK. In May 2022, the municipal council discussed in detail the renovation of the bobsleigh and toboggan run. Mayor Georg Willi provides information regarding the background of the project. The lower third of the track has to be redesigned. According to the Innsbruck Olympic Sports and Event Center (OSVI), the project is worth around 50 million euros. The city’s contribution should be 21.7% or a maximum of EUR 12 million. The application was accepted.

9.14 million from the country

The OSVI has developed a renovation concept with a straightening and extension of the outlet, relocation of the finish and the finish building, adaptation, renovation and renewal of paths, areas and lines, new lighting, video surveillance, timekeeping, safety equipment and the relocation of the women’s start. The costs for this should amount to 27.4 million euros. At the meeting of the state government, a co-financing of 9.14 million euros from the state was decided. The other planned projects such as a federal performance center, year-round railway utilization with international events, weather-independent railway operations or energy optimization with a total cost of around 23.2 million euros cannot be implemented.

It appears very surprised FPÖ Deputy Mayor Markus Lassenberger in a broadcast regarding the fact that the promise of financial participation by the state of Tyrol in the necessary general renovation of the Igler Eiskanal from the

Lassenberger is able to see that the country is changing because of the promised amount

who remarks smugly: “The good contacts of the green mayor in the country house and
in the federal government will certainly accomplish this.”
