Tunisia finally opted for a new constitution. According to the final results of the July 25 constitutional referendum published on Tuesday, the new charter was approved by 94.6% of voters.
At least 2.6 million people have therefore voted in favor of this text.
Even if the participation rate was considered very low with 30.5%.

The text establishes a hyper-presidential regime unlike the 2014 constitution which voluntarily limited the role of the head of state to fight once morest arbitrariness.
The charter does not provide for a procedure for impeachment of the president, who appoints the head of government and ministers and can dismiss them at will.
The vote on the new constitution came a year following what some have called the president’s seizure of power Kais Sayed.
According to political scientists, those who voted “yes” were motivated above all by the hope of an improvement in their economic situation.
