The Lotto Soudal team announced on Tuesday its selection for the Tour of Spain which will begin on Friday in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Cedric Beullens, Steff Tomorrow, Thomas De Gendt et Maxim Van Gils are the four Belgians who will fight for stage victories in the WorldTour squad. The selection is completed by the Australians Harry Sweeny et Jared DriznersItalian Filippo conca and the Polish Kamil Malecki.
With seven Vueltas to his credit, Thomas De Gendt has experience in this grand tour and will guide the young selection. Among the riders, five are starting on the Tour of Spain.
“I think we have a strong and balanced team for this last grand tour of the season. Without an undisputed leader, but which offers opportunities for everyone to try their luck. With Thomas De Gendt, we have someone who has seen it all and experienced it all“, said the sporting director, Kurt Van de Wouwer. “In 2017 he won a stage in the Vuelta and at the last Giro he proved he was still capable of winning stages. He can guide our young riders who are making their grand tour debut: Beullens, Drizners and Conca.“
