Harare, 17th August, WAM – At least 157 children have died of measles in Zimbabwe, since this contagious viral disease began spreading two weeks ago, according to the Zimbabwean authorities.
And Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Information of Zimbabwe, said during a press conference that as of August 15, the cumulative toll in the country reached 2,056 cases and 157 deaths. She stressed that the government intends to intensify vaccination operations and will disburse funds from the National Disaster Fund to deal with this emergency.
It is noteworthy that the measles virus attacks mainly children, and its most serious complications are blindness and diarrhea, in addition to serious infections of the respiratory system.
The symptoms of this disease are a red rash that appears first on the face and then spreads to the rest of the body. In the past, this disease was very common, but now it can be prevented thanks to an anti-vaccine.
