Ecuadorean President Guillermo Laso revealed that he will travel to a US hospital known for treating cancer for medical tests, and is likely to undergo surgery there following being diagnosed with melanoma on the right eyelid, adding that this will not affect his presidential duties.
Lasso, a former banker and businessman who took office in May last year, underwent surgery on July 29 to remove a cancerous tumor in the lower part of the eyelid, but will have further tests on the recommendation of his doctor, he said at a news conference before leaving for Houston.
Lasso said he’s going to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
This is the second time that Lasso has traveled to the United States due to health problems. In June 2021, the president of Ecuador underwent surgery to remove a cyst in his lower back.
