Colombian GDP for the second quarter of 2022 | Finance | Economy

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Colombia for the second quarter of 2022 (April – June) it was of 12,6 %, according to data provided by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane).

The three sectors that contributed the most to GDP were commerce, maintenance, transport, storage, accommodation and food services (4.4 percentage points – pps), manufacturing industry (2.5 pps) and public administration, defense, education and health (1 .6 pps). Together they contributed 8.4 pps.

Per month, May was the one that contributed the most, with 5.6 pps. The second was April, with 4 pps, and closed June, with 3 pps.

As for the data for the first half of 2022, this was 10.6%. And the GDP for the first quarter was revised, going from 8.5% to 8.6%.

The most important rebound this period was precisely that of artistic, entertainment and recreation activities, with a variation of 36.5%. In commerce, the variation in the quarter was 23.3%, followed by the rebound of 20.3% in the case of manufacturing industries.

The information and communications sector grew 17.2%; professional, scientific and technical activities, 12.3%; and financial and insurance activities, 11.4%. The branch of public administration and defense, health and education grew 9% in the quarter; construction saw an expansion of 9% and in the case of electricity, gas and water supply the increase in economic activity was 7.2%.

Although the 12 branches of activity measured by the Dane had positive growth, the less noticeable variations occurred in the agricultural sector (1%) and the exploitation of mines and quarries (0%). Real estate activities reported a sectoral GDP of 1.9%.

In addition, Julieth Solano, the deputy director general (e), referred to several conjunctural events that took place in the second quarter, including elections, vacation seasons, and fairs and parties.

Among the events highlighted were the Bogotá Ibero-American Theater Festival, the Bogotá Book Fair, the Vallenata Legend Festival, the repeal of having to show the covid-19 vaccination card, the first and second presidential rounds, the Colombian Folk Festival, the National Reign of Bambuco, the second day without VAT and going on vacation, which boosted GDP in the second quarter.
