On October 9, 2021, Estelle Leblanc was riding her bicycle on Route 139 in the Township of Roxton, near Roxton Pond. The 63-year-old cyclist rolled into a hole or cracks in the roadway. She fell and was then run over by a van.
“The police concluded their investigation by writing in their report that the main cause of the accident was the poor condition of the roadway on Route 139, particularly in the last kilometers before arriving at Roxton Falls, in the Township of Roxton”, writes coroner Jean Brochu in his report.
The coroner also points out in his report that Ms. Leblanc was a sporty person, in excellent physical shape and who traveled thousands of kilometers by bicycle each summer.
“I recommend that the Ministère des Transports du Québec review the road repair protocol for Route 139, near the municipality of Roxton Falls where the accident occurred, and make the necessary corrections to prevent such an event happens once more.”
