A huge fire broke out, on Tuesday, in the church of Anba Bishoy in New Minya, south of the Egyptian capital, Cairo. No casualties were reported, according to official confirmations.
A source in Minya Governorate revealed that the security services received a notification from the “rescue operations” that a fire broke out in the Anba Bishoy Church in New Minya.
The Governor of Minya, Major General Osama Al-Qadi, confirmed that there were no injuries, noting that the fire was caused by an “electrical circuit”, in televised statements.
Circulating pictures showed that the church building was severely damaged from the inside following the fire was extinguished, while it was not clear that there were a number of worshipers inside it during the blaze.
The Minya church fire came days following a massive fire in the “Abu Sefein” church in the Imbaba area in the Egyptian Giza governorate, which killed 41 people, and the authorities said it occurred as a result of an electrical fault.
