75-year-old cyclist dies, run over by truck

This Tuesday morning, a 75-year-old cyclist was hit by a truck near the Eben-Emael double roundregarding, near the motorway exit, rue Sous Le Boeuf. The cyclist had just passed the roundregarding and was heading towards Wonck. The truck driver would simply not have seen the cyclist who passed under his wheels. The septuagenarian was killed instantly.

The cyclist is a resident of Lanaken who seemed particularly familiar with road cycling. The driver, meanwhile, is particularly shocked. So much so that he had to be taken care of by the SAPV of the Basse-Meuse police. The driver’s blood tests are negative for alcohol and drugs. And he wasn’t making any calls on his cell phone at the time.

The duty officer of the zone went on the spot as well as an expert of the parquet floor. On Facebook, the municipality of Bassenge announces that the road between Wonck and Eben is closed to traffic.
