Kwon Seong-dong re-appointed as floor leader of the People’s Power… “Thank you for the opportunity, my shoulders are heavy”

The People’s Power held a general meeting of the National Assembly on the 16th and passed the agenda for re-appointment of floor leader Kwon Seong-dong, which spread confusion in the party such as leaking private messages with President Yoon Seok-yeol.

Joo Ho-young, chairman of the People’s Power Emergency Response Committee, said following the general meeting of the National Assembly held on the same day, “I think some lawmakers have seen that the floor leader Kwon Seong-dong must step down with responsibility, and that his office cannot be carried out smoothly without a re-appointment procedure.” As a result of the vote, an overwhelming majority supported the re-appointment,” he said.

Kwon was elected as the floor leader with the title of ‘Yoon Hee-kwan’ (a key official of President Yoon Seok-yeol), including an agreement with the Democratic Party of Korea on the arbitration plan for the arbitration plan (completely stripped of the prosecution’s investigative authority), the controversy over the private employment of the president, and the leakage of private telegram messages with President Yoon. He later scored an own goal.

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the National Assembly, to be re-appointed

In response, some pointed out that we should ask for the re-trust of the unstable floor leader. In addition, some voiced that it is not right for floor leader Kwon to join the non-captain as an ex-officio member, who caused the party’s emergency with the launch of the emergency response committee.

In such a situation, it seems that floor leader Kwon ended the controversy by asking lawmakers whether or not to re-trust himself as he finished the procedure for the inauguration of the non-captain. However, the issue of his reappointment was suddenly raised from the National Assembly on the same day, and controversy is being raised that it fit the schedule for the launch of the non-captain.

According to several members of the National Assembly, the vote for re-appointment of floor leader Kwon was decided through an anonymous vote by the attending lawmakers. Rep. Lim Ja and Jo Hae-jin spoke and immediately put to a vote to pass the re-confidence agenda. A lawmaker who attended the National Assembly said, “The bill for re-appointment of floor leader Kwon was passed without any disagreement.”

However, it was originally announced at 2 pm on the same day as a video conference system installed in each member’s room or a ‘video medical session’ method that was conducted through a mobile phone connection, but it was changed to an ‘offline medical meeting’ held at the Preliminary Committee meeting room of the main office.

About 50 lawmakers attended the National Assembly, with only regarding half of the total (115) in attendance. It seems that the attendance rate was low because lawmakers were changed offline instead of being able to attend the National Assembly by video in their respective constituencies.

Some lawmakers complained at the chairperson, “I opened the doctor’s office by video, and then suddenly it was changed to offline.”

Joo Ho-young found out too late regarding the change in the order of the ceremony.

After the remarks of both the floor leader Kwon and the main vice chairperson of the National Assembly, the main vice chairperson decided to report on the appointment of the non-commissioned member at a closed meeting, but the order of the proceedings was changed as an agenda for re-appointing the floor leader Kwon came up in the middle.

In his remarks, the chairman of the main committee also said, “Actually, I need to announce the list of (non-commissioned members) right now, but because the floor leader has other circumstances, I will come back and report the list following that.”

Kwon Seong-dong “Ask for re-confidence and decide what to do next to help the non-captain”

Regarding the result of re-appointment following the parliamentary assembly, floor leader Kwon said, “Anyway, I am grateful to the lawmakers for giving me the opportunity to work once more, and my shoulders are heavy.”

When asked if the re-appointment was announced on that day, floor leader Kwon said, “Today is the day the non-captain is inaugurated. I decided that it would be helpful for the future activities of the non-captain by asking for re-confidence and deciding on the course according to the wishes of the lawmakers. “From the moment I already decided to move on to the non-captain, I had the thought of asking for re-confidence at the point when the formation of the non-captain was completed,” he said.

Kwon continued, “I was going to hold a public meeting today, but there was no room. I asked the chairman of the voting committee to use the conference room for 40 minutes, so I asked for re-confidence today.”

In this regard, former People’s Power Representative Lee Jun-seok said, “The irony is that the acting party representative who declared the party’s emergency situation was re-trusted by the National Assembly following exposing internal shooting texts and cherry picking by exposing him to internal bullets and cherry picking.” Where was the emergency, where was the problem, and who was responsible?”
