As happened with Covid-19, the so-called ‘monkey pox’ also reached Barranquilla.
The National Institute of Health reported this holiday Monday the first case registered in the capital of the Atlantic.
But, until tonight, the District had no information on how the patient in Barranquilla was infected.
However, the health authorities are on alert in order to warn the public to avoid contagion.
According to Infectologist Iván Zuluaga, the transmission of what is also called ‘simian pox’ is not as easy as other diseases, since very close contact with the person who is infected is generally required.
“That is, very close respiratory contact, with secretions, wounds or with the skin where the lesions are”noted the expert.
He warned that in closed circles it can occur not only through person-to-person contact but also through the clothing worn by the ‘monkey pox’ patient.
“Not only clothing, but also bedding and towels, for example. All of this should be set aside and washed in a different place where everything in the home is washed”, he stressed.
Additionally, he stated that there would be a risk in intimate sexual contact in which an infected person can happen to another who is not.
“Unlike other respiratory diseases, mainly, close contact is the one that prevails,” pointed out.
For this reason, the recommendation of the health authorities is self-care as the main prevention strategy once morest ‘monkey pox’.
