FIFA don’t mess around when it comes to doping. On its official website, world football’s governing body said it had handed two players a four-year suspension for doping. The alleged facts occurred during matches counting for the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed a four-year period of ineligibility on the following two players due to doping violations during qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™: Erick Alejandro Rivera (El Salvador) , tested positive for Clostebol following a match played on September 8, 2021; Sabri Ali Mohamed (Djibouti), tested positive for exogenous testosterone following a match played on November 12, 2021. Due to the presence of the aforementioned prohibited substances (these two substances being classified as an unspecified substance ” S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroid” in the 2021 Prohibited List – International Standard of the World Anti-Doping Code) in the samples provided by the two Players, the latter are guilty of violations of art. 6 of the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations and article 17 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The periods of provisional suspension already served by the two players having been deducted from their period of ineligibility of four years, MM. Rivera and Ali Mohamed are respectively suspended until October 5, 2025 and July 11, 2026. In accordance with article 30 of the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations, these suspensions apply in particular to all national and international matches, friendly or official.the statement said.
