Due to a landslide and the overflow of a ravine, the road between Urabá and Medellín is closed

The overflow of a ravine and a landslide in the municipality of Cañasgordas forced this festive Monday to total closure of the road between Medellín and Urabá Antioquiaaccording to the authorities and private concessions in charge of that corridor.

According to the first reports from the Police Transit and Transportation Directorate, the first emergency occurred around 4:50 in the morning on Sunday, August 15, in a sector known as Ruicón.

There, a ravine that runs close to the highway, at kilometer 43 + 910, it went out of its channel and left behind debris that created an obstruction.

“The overflow occurred in the early morning hours, so far no affectation has been reported to people or road users,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Fabio Sierra, commander of the Traffic Police in Antioquia.

According to the uniformed officer, since the early hours of the morning a team from the concession that is in charge of maintaining that corridor, Autopistas Urabá SAS, had moved to the point of overflow and progressed in the removal works to enable it as soon as possible.

Despite the advances in these works, around noon this Monday the authorities they still did not have an estimate of when the passage might be restored.

The second emergency occurred around 9:00 in the morning on August 15, when, as a result of heavy rains, a landslide occurred in the section of the same road between the municipalities of Buriticá and Cañasgordas.

According to the Devimar concession, the obstruction is located at reference point 60also located in Cañasgordas, where removal work was progressing.

Apart from these two situations, it should be remembered that since last August 13 there have been blockades on the road to Urabá due to a series of protests by miners in Buriticá, where regarding 250 citizens have staged blockades in the Pinguro sector, close to the urban center of that municipality, and also in the area surrounding the headquarters of the Zijin Continental company.

“At this moment from Urabá the drivers they can have as an alternate route the highway between Caucasia and Medellínboth those that go to the coast and to Medellín”, recommended Commander Sierra, while the corridor is enabled.
