The question has been asked on a few occasions over the past few days. Why is the Canadian delaying signing an agreement with Kirby Dach?
I might answer: why haven’t the Dallas Stars renewed their agreement with goaltender Joey Oettinger, a great revelation for the Texas team during the last playoffs?
No doubt a question of strategy in order to better ward off the bad blows that the salary cap might reserve.
Are there really other reasons?
Is Dach demanding a grossly exaggerated salary?
Prudence ?
Or does the Canadian really want to make sure that his assessment of the former Blackhawks center player invites him to be cautious? Some recruiters of the organization would have confided to an American journalist: “We know the profile of the player, we have done our homework. However, can we say beyond any doubt that we know exactly what Dach’s contribution will be? No, we don’t know that. »
Kent Hughes tactfully led the discussions.
This is the time of year when we are regarding to make the last decisions before the start of the next season and especially according to the salary cap.
What is the value of Dach?
Kent Hughes has made his views known to representatives of the great centre-back?
The reply has come. Now we are dealing with time. For Hughes, it is imperative to give oneself flexibility in terms of financial commitments, and, at the same time, in the management of the workforce.
Dach will sign an agreement with the CH.
It is obvious that he will have important responsibilities with the organization. You don’t trade a defenseman like Alexander Romanov for an Islanders first draft pick, 13e in total, to then hand this choice to the Blackhawks for Dach, without having determined what the young man can bring to the organization.
However, Kent Hughes may take advantage of the current situation to give himself more room to manoeuvre.
Lou Lamoriello still hasn’t announced the hiring of Alexander Romanov and Noah Dobson? However, there would be agreements signed by the two players, but we prefer to wait to complete other important files, in particular that of Nazem Kadri and the need to exchange a veteran to meet the salary requirements of the free agent without compensation.
It should not be ruled out that the general manager of the Canadian is solicited by some of his counterparts.
Interest in Allen
Hasn’t the name of Jake Allen fueled rumors over the past few days? Two teams from the Western Conference are among those who have expressed an interest.
And why not ?
Allen does not present convincing statistics, far from it, except that he remains a support goalkeeper with experience, capable of rendering valuable services to a formation.
Do you believe that the Vegas Golden Knights, now that Robin Lehner is on the sidelines for the 2022-23 season, are not looking for a goalkeeper with an interesting track record?
In recent years, he has acted as a back-up goalkeeper. But, for several years, he was still the St. Louis Blues’ right-hand man.
The Carey Price file, of course, complicates the job of Kent Hughes.
Rest in peace, Paul!
Paul Bourque, who left us on Friday evening for a supposedly better world, was an exemplary workmate whom we greatly appreciated.
He was always ready to give you appropriate advice, he knew how to communicate with people and he was very generous. Paul was in charge of production at TVA Sports and TVA Réseau and when we ran into him in the corridors of the company, we inevitably started discussing his job, the new technology. He was an important cog in the spirit of camaraderie that animates the big TVA Sports family.
We miss him already. His calm, attentiveness and great professionalism served his personality well.
To the family, my deepest condolences…
Rest in peace, my dear Paul.
A beautiful show
The names appearing in bold at the very top of the poster were not there. But that did not cast a shadow over the exceptional performance of the athletes who, over the past week, served tennis with great distinction at the National Bank Open in both Montreal and Toronto.
Admittedly, we would have liked a final involving Félix in Montreal and Leylah in Toronto, but hey. The fact remains that the last week has allowed us to appreciate the tennis of this new generation.
A quick note: Perhaps Tennis Canada might consider having the men’s championship and the women’s championship a week apart.
