A conference on this disease at the center of discussions

Colon cancer affects many people every year. In 2020, 1431 people died from cancer and of this figure, 154 men and 165 women died from colon cancer.

Cancer is in third position when it comes to the main causes of death in Mauritius. It is with this in mind that the Ministry of Health intends to bring together health professionals next September for the exchange of information.

As a result, a conference on colorectal cancer screening is scheduled for September 12 and 13. The event will involve the participation of experts from the UK to guide Mauritian healthcare professionals on the design of a colon cancer program in Mauritius.

Through this activity, health personnel in the country’s hospitals will be able to share their knowledge with other doctors, but also establish a large-scale screening strategy. The Ministry of Health hopes this will encourage people at risk and encourage them to get tested as soon as possible and start their treatment accordingly. Recall that this decision was endorsed by the ministerial cabinet.
