The Sparkasse has new plans. Withdrawing cash is no longer provided in these. But what does that mean for consumers?
The Sparkasse presents its new plans. Digital payment methods play a major role here. And this has cash implications. Especially at the switches. The savings banks are now commenting on this.
Cashless payment is becoming more and more popular
Cash is still important for many Germans. But cashless payment has also become increasingly popular in recent years. The corona pandemic has played a major role in this.
The savings banks are observing increasing digitization. However, this applies to banking transactions as well as to withdrawing cash.
Money can now also be withdrawn with a mobile phone instead of an EC card. At least at a Sparkasse ATM.
So a very general question arises. Is the cash now on the verge of extinction? And will withdrawals at the counter soon no longer be possible?
Savings banks comment on important cash issues
Deutsche Bank has already let it be known. In many branches, cash will no longer be issued in the long term. Deutsche Bank only offers this service in a few large centers. And of course at the ATM.
The savings banks in Cologne and Hamburg have also taken a stand. They don’t want to follow Deutsche Bank’s strategy.
“In all 116 branches, customers have the option of withdrawing money from the cash register.” This is the statement from Cologne. The Sparkasse from Hamburg agrees. The offer should not be restricted there either.
Many customers of the savings banks in Germany are currently asking themselves the same question. In order to answer this question, the Handelsblatt asked the savings banks directly. The information they received should calm opponents of digital payment methods. First of all: it’s regarding payouts at the counter – ATMs are not available anyway.
Customers in Lower Saxony can also rest easy. The bank branches there will also not take a completely opposite course.
Cash is still available from the Sparkasse
Both at the counter and at the ATM. Cash is by no means on the verge of extinction at the savings banks.
Nevertheless, there is a trend. Because the classic bank counter is visited less and less to withdraw cash. Because the ATM is simply the faster way.
