Kaya: The Prime Minister visits an emergency shelter construction site for the displaced

Kaya, August 14, 2022 (AIB)-The Prime Minister, Albert Ouédraogo, visited Saturday at the exit of the city of Kaya, the development works of a site which must shelter 600 emergency shelters for IDPs.

“We have just visited this construction site for shelters for internally displaced people. It is a site of four hectares and the project concerns 600 shelters. I see that the level of execution is very appreciable”, declared the head of government, at the end of the visit.

According to him, he is a citizen of good will, who agreed to give up his land for construction.

The Prime Minister also encouraged the actors of the Ministry in charge of Humanitarian Action and all those involved in the conduct of the work, to continue and complete this project.

The Minister in charge of Humanitarian Action, Lazare Zoungrana, explained that the emergency shelters on this site are of the Sahelian type and can each accommodate a household of seven (07) people maximum.

“These are emergency shelters made with state funding. It is regarding building the government’s capacity in terms of hosting IDPs,” he added.

Minister Zoungrana revealed that 483 shelters have already been built on the site. There are still, he noted, finishing touches to be made.

Indeed, the facades of some tents have not yet benefited from plastic covers, while we are in the winter season.

“They are going to finalize those aspects, stabilize the interior and ensure that the surroundings are well protected, so that there is no water infiltration. This work that remains to be done is not enormous,” reassured the Minister in charge of Humanitarian Action.

This visit comes following the inauguration on the same day in Kaya, of socio-collective infrastructure by Prime Minister Albert Ouédraogo.

The head of government also laid the first stone of four communal cities for the benefit of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in the cities of Kaya, Dori, Kongoussi and Tougouri.
