(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Han Jong-gu = Seven vacationers were swept away by rapids in a valley in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, and died.
According to Chinese media on the 14th, including Shin Shinbo, a large amount of fire suddenly poured down a valley in Chengdu around 3:30 pm the day before, and 7 residents who were enjoying their summer vacation were swept away by the rapids, killing 3 people and injuring 3 others.
In a video released by Chinese media, a man shouted at the residents to evacuate quickly, and following a while, a huge amount of water poured down from the top of the valley.
The video also showed a dizzying figure of a man who might not evacuate out of the valley, holding a small child on a rock and waiting for rescue.
An eyewitness told the Chinese media at the time, “About 10 seconds following I was told to evacuate, a huge amount of water came down from the top of the mountain.”
Chinese media are presuming that the valley water has swelled due to heavy rain on the mountain top.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
