Maharashtra Cabinet: Home and Finance to Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra; Urban Development Department to Chief Minister Shinde

After the expansion of the Maharashtra Cabinet, the division of departments has also been completed. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde retained the urban development portfolio and allotted the crucial portfolios of home and finance to Devendra Fadnavis. According to a statement from the chief minister’s office, Shinde has also retained the environment department, which was earlier headed by Aditya Thackeray.

BJP MLA Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is the new revenue minister. He will also handle the Departments of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development. Sudhir Mungantiwar will handle the departments of Forest, Cultural Activities and Fisheries. Former state BJP president Chandrakant Patil will be in charge of higher and technical education, textile industry and parliamentary affairs departments.

Shiv Sena MLA Tanaji Sawant is the new state health minister. Other Sena MLAs, Abdul Sattar and Deepak Kesarkar, were allotted the portfolios of agriculture and school education respectively. Gulabrau Patil will be the new Minister of Water Supply and Sanitation and Sanjay Rathore will head the Department of Food and Drug Administration.

BJP’s Girish Mahajan is the new sports and youth welfare minister and will also look following rural development, panchayati raj and medical education departments. BJP MLA Vijayakumar Gavit will handle tribal development, while Sena MLA Uday Samant is the new industries minister.

Earlier this week, Shinde expanded his cabinet more than 40 days following being sworn in as Maharashtra chief minister. . The Maharashtra cabinet was expanded to include 18 members, nine each from the BJP and the Shinde-led Shiv Sena camp.
