One thing that Sehwag said during the match kept reminding me: Ross Taylor
New Zealand superstar Ross Taylor’s autobiography Black and White was released last day. Taylor has interestingly written regarding his struggles in New Zealand cricket, fun moments with the team and other tours.
Now, Taylor is talking regarding Virender Sehwag’s influence on his game and attitude. He also says that Sehwag’s advice during the match really worked.
The incident happened during the 2012 IPL. Both were playing for Delhi then. All the team members once went to Sehwag’s restaurant.
Manchester City won the title that day. While everyone else was cheering for City’s victory, Taylor was the only one who had changed and was eating his favorite prawn.
“We had a night at Sehwag’s restaurant that we will never forget. Many people in the restaurant were football fans. Therefore, Manchester City’s match was shown on the big screen there.
It was the last round of the Premier League. Sergio Aguero’s goal in stoppage time saw Manchester win 3-2. It was the first title in 44 years.
The food in the restaurant was very good. Especially prawns. As for me, I might not help but eat it.
The next day we had a game. Sehwag was hitting all over the ground. He scored every boundary with ease. But foreign players including myself were struggling to run.
Delhi paid a huge price for me, so all I had to do was score. I was very nervous regarding all this. But still Sehwag was very calm.
Seeing my panic, he gave me a punch and asked me to bat like eating prawns. Cricket was a hobby for him and he played cricket for fun.
From then on, whenever we met, he always reminded me of the prawn,’ says Taylor.
The player played for Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capital) in that one season only. He scored 256 runs from 16 matches in the season.
