Amazingly, the author of The Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie, was stabbed by an unknown man and ended up being hospitalized. He was stabbed repeatedly while giving material on artistic freedom at the Chautauqua Institution, New York. The motive behind the attack is still being investigated.
Quoted from CNNfollowing hours of surgery, Salman Rushdie is still on a ventilator and cannot speak. According to his agent, Andrew Wylie who manages Salman’s books and publishing, the novelist is likely to lose his eye.
Not only that, he also suffered nerve damage in his arm and injuries to his heart. “The nerves in his arm were severed, his heart stabbed and damaged,” Wylie added.

Salman Rushdie was given medical treatment by a doctor who was also present at the open agenda in New York, before finally the medical team for the emergency response arrived. According to New York Timeshe was stabbed 10 times.
There were three stab wounds to the right side of the front of the neck, four stab wounds to the stomach, then to the right eye, chest and lacerations to his right thigh, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmid said.
“Rushdie may have lost his right eye,” they said.

The fourth novel tells of the main character named Mahound or who is believed to be the most likely Prophet Muhammad.
