The Minister of People’s Power for Science and Technology Gabriela Jiménez-Ramírez presented awards for service merits to 80 science workers, this on the occasion of the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the Ministry of People’s Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt).
The activity led by the Minister was propitious to thank “the commitment, ethics and daily exercise of the workers who work for the well-being of the Venezuelan people. Each one of you is a benchmark of knowledge for life, coexistence; but above all they are a benchmark for a country that resists, believes and transforms”.
In this context, Jiménez-Ramírez recalled the enormous effort made by scientists, men and women scientists, innovators, popular technologists, and popular technologists to overcome difficulties.
“What better exercise than the one we have achieved with the pandemic, with the work of Venezuelans who are committed to knowledge. What better exercise than what we have achieved with the potato seed, from biotechnology, in being able to accompany the peasant people in a new alliance to rescue our agrobiodiversity” he said.
In this sense, the permanent secretary of the National Council of Universities and former Minister of Science and Technology Yadira Córdova expressed feeling honored with this recognition, at a time when the ministry celebrates 23 years. “Receiving recognition 23 years following the Ministry of Science and Technology was created by our Commander Hugo Chávez Frías is a huge honor for me. It is also an honor to have been able to contribute, on a small and medium scale, with what this ministry is and with what it has done for the country”.
He highlighted the importance of recognizing the workers of science, who, with courage, have managed to overcome the obstacles of the crisis, challenging the messages of destruction. “This recognition is a message to the resistance, to the insurgency of those workers, who even in the worst circumstances, build technological independence, build a sovereign homeland for the well-being of the people.”
For his part, immunologist at the Nicolás Bianco Colmenares Institute of Immunology of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and principal investigator of the phase III clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine in Venezuela, Alexis García, thanked the recognition for honor of merit granted to him the Mincyt.
“I want to thank the Ministry for Science and Technology for giving me this recognition. A recognition that is not only addressed to me, but to the entire team that works with me on the different projects related to COVID-19”, said the researcher.
