Many countries and regions have handed over their own green car models. Some places clearly state that only pure electric cars are available, but others are aimed at eliminating fuel vehicles. Toyota, which has invested in fuel cells for many years, will cooperate with its partner BMW,planSales of jointly developed hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will begin in 2025. Pieter Nota, sales director at BMWNikkeiThe interview did not mention specific models, but mentioned that hydrogen fuel cells are “especially suitable” for large SUVs like the iX5 Hydrogen, and small-scale production is expected by the end of this year.

BMW and Toyota have been partners for many years, such as the shared platform Z4 and Supra twin sports cars, and also formed the Green Car Alliance in 2013, and the development of fuel cells began in 2020.

Both carmakers have their own development plans for pure electric vehicles, and it seems to have become a market trend, so why spend extra money to invest in other technologies? Nota put forward a few points to explain, one is that the charging speed of fuel cells is much faster than that of pure electric models, and the other is the concept of installment investment. For example, when the world is rushing for parts related to pure electric vehicles, they also have other ways out. Supply chain problems can be avoided.

Nota reveals that BMW expectspure electric vehicleIt will still account for a large proportion of sales, and it will probably be able to reach the 50% target by 2030 (including Mini and Rolls-Royce and other brands), it can be seen that the proportion of their sales dominated by fuel vehicles will be converted sooner than planned.
