DID YOU KNOW? WHY IS THE BOOK “THE UNIVERSE IN A NUTSHELL” BY STEPHEN HAWKING INTERESTING?

There is no doubt, the author is undoubtedly one of the most influential in terms of theoretical physics, since his theories often exceed fiction. The topics contained are the universe (space, light and time) and the phenomena that occur in it. When questioning its content, the text gives us in 246 pages a vision of the human being as someone who manages to get out of himself to scrutinize the secrets of the cosmos of which we are a part and, at the same time, understand the smallness and finitude as a human species. More than 100 illustrations are also accompanied.

From a different perspective, it might be said that it is a philosophical book insofar as it highlights the wonder and questioning regarding existence, also asking questions such as: What is time? How can our finite minds understand the infinite universe? Why is the night sky dark? Is time travel possible? How do we explain the absence of extraterrestrial visitors?

The narrative presents some novel facts such as the Manhattan project, the twin paradox and Einstein’s letter to President Roosevelt in 1939, which was prophetic, and various other curiosities.

When the author raises the question of time, he confesses that it perplexes him because it is not the same for everyone, it has variations, just like light and the universe. On this, there are opinions raised in the course of history by various thinkers: Augustine of Hippo and Emmanuel Kant, among them.

The content of the work is copious, it will make known notions regarding the anthropic principle, a chronology of the discoveries of Supher and Hubble, between 1910 and 1930, the Doppler effect, Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem, black holes (which at the end are not so black), dark matter… and more.

The book ends with a glossary that will help your better understanding.

It’s my word!
