Egypt’s parliament calls for an emergency session to consider an urgent matter and news of a cabinet reshuffle

The Egyptian parliament called on its deputies to hold an emergency session today, Saturday, to consider an urgent matter.

The Egyptian House of Representatives, headed by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gabali, decided to hold an emergency session today, Saturday, at 12 noon, where the General Secretariat of the Council sent urgent messages to the members, stating that an emergency session would be held to consider an urgent matter.

The convening of the session comes during the parliamentary recess, which is scheduled to end at the beginning of next October, while parliamentary sources suggested that the session would be devoted to examining an upcoming ministerial reshuffle or discussing a file AlNahda dam After Ethiopia announced the completion of the third filling, despite the objection of Egypt and Sudan.

Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

The sources told Al Arabiya.net that the session will be related to a new ministerial reshuffle, the exclusion of a number of ministers, and the infusion of new blood into the government’s working wheel, adding that it is possible to discuss the Renaissance Dam file as well, according to the new developments.

According to Article 129 of the Egyptian Constitution, the President of the Republic has the right to make a cabinet reshuffle following consulting with the Prime Minister, and he sends a letter to that effect to the House of Representatives indicating the ministries to be amended, and the Speaker presents it in the first session following his arrival.

The article stipulated that, outside the session, the parliament is called for an emergency session to discuss the decision within a week of receiving the president’s letter to decide on it.

The approval of the amendment shall be made as a whole, with the approval of the majority of the members present and not less than one third of the number of members, and the President of the Republic shall be notified of this.

Egypt has been waiting for a cabinet reshuffle for months, especially following Health Minister Hala Zayed applied for an open leave following she fell ill, while Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar was assigned to carry out the work of the Ministry of Health in addition to his responsibility in his ministry, and Osama Heikal, Minister of State for Information, resigned.

In October of the year 2019, Egypt witnessed a cabinet reshuffle that included the change of 10 ministers and the return of the Ministry of Information.
