Zurich warns of monkeypox
The Street Parade carries an increased risk of spread, warns the City. She calls on participants to protect themselves as best as possible.

The City of Zurich warns visitors to the Street Parade once morest infection with monkeypox. It also asks the Confederation to obtain vaccines urgently. Zurich is the canton with the most cases in Switzerland.
City of Zurich health official Andreas Hauri has asked the Confederation to buy vaccines, can be read in a statement published on Friday. The vaccine is currently not available in Switzerland.
The Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP) has already come out in favor of a centralized purchase of the vaccine. However, the Federal Council has the final say and nothing has been decided yet.
Call before the Street Parade
The City of Zurich is therefore launching an appeal before the Street Parade which will take place on Saturday. Participants are responsible for protecting themselves to the best of their ability. The City refers to the recommendations of the WHO.
These include avoiding contact with infected people, washing hands thoroughly with soap, using a condom during sex, and coughing into the crook of your arm.

So far, 368 cases of monkeypox have been identified in Switzerland, including 168 in the canton of Zurich. Spain has reported two deaths, the first in Europe. Worldwide, eight deaths have been recorded since May.
