[뉴스토마토 박창욱 기자] Police officers who leaked photos of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who died suddenly in a helicopter crash, have sparked controversy.

According to foreign media such as The Guardian and Associated Press, Kobe Bryant’s wife Barnes Bryant told a Los Angeles court on the 11th (local time), “The sheriffs took pictures of their husbands and children who died at the helicopter crash site with their cell phones and used them personally.” It was consumed as visual gossip by sharing it with people who had no reason to see it.”

Eight people, including Los Angeles County Sheriff Joey Cruz, have been charged with personal use of photos of the dead taken at the site of a helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

Bartender Victor Gutirez, who stood as a witness in the courtroom that day, said, “Cruze asked me if I wanted to see a picture of Kobe, and I said ‘yes’. (Looking at the picture) I didn’t laugh.”

“I didn’t laugh,” Gutirez said. You have to be insane to see that picture and laugh,” he said.

But his wife, Vanessa’s lawyer, has released CCTV stills in court of the bar that appear to be smiling at the witnesses.

According to reports, the couple showed their photos to their wives, women they met at the bar, and colleagues at awards ceremonies.

In response, Cruise’s lawyer said, “Photo taking is essential for first responders on the spot. It is true that the photos were shared privately, but they all deleted the photos in March of the same year.”

Meanwhile, NBA legend Kobe Bryant died on January 26, 2020, when a helicopter crashed while he was going to a basketball game in Thousand Oaks, California. At the time, all nine people on board, including their daughter Gianna, died.
