It’s a major challenge that a German speedrunner has just set himself by setting himself an absurd goal combining both speedrunning and trophy hunting. And it does not make it easy when you know that his choice is on the vast universe of Kingdom Hearts.
Seven games, seven platinums, in seven days
Kingdom Hearts is a well-known franchise for fans of action-RPG type video games. Developed and published by Square Enix, this series is the result of an association between the Japanese studio and Disney Interactive Studios, the whole being headed by Tetsuya Nomura. A universe as rich as it is extensive that the German streamer and speedrunner named “desa” has chosen to launch a masterful challenge. Indeed, at the beginning of the week, on August 7 exactly, the latter has decided to try to win seven platinum trophies, corresponding to the seven games of the main series reissued and released on PlayStation 4, and this as quickly as possible. These are precisely the following titles:
- Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts Re : Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix
- Kingdom Hearts 3D : Dream Drop Distance HD
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2
- Kingdom Hearts III
And the challenge does not stop there since “desa” is fixed seven days to do soan average of one platinum per day.
Tomorrow we’re starting the journey to obtain ALL(!) Kingdom Hearts Trophies on the PS4 as quickly as possible!
Had to skip the 12th as I write an exam on that day, but other than that these are the starting and potential end times for each run.
Hope to see you tomorrow 😀 pic.twitter.com/4qv2UYtJog— desa (@desa3579) August 6, 2022
An ambitious challenge
By estimating around 20 to 30 hours to complete each episode in a straight line, that is to say by just following the main story, it is therefore not necessary no less than 115 hours to complete the set. Knowing that seven days equal 168 hours, the margin is not very high. In addition, trophy hunters will agree that it is not enough to complete the game to obtain the precious platinum. Most often, other trophies, called annexes, require you to perform very specific actions or collect objects, for example, which can quickly become very time-consuming.
According to his posts on Twitter, since the speedrunner started his challenge, it went platinum for Kingdom Hearts Final Mix in 11 hours and for the episode titled Re: Chain of Memories in less than 20 hours, not without encountering a few hiccups on the rest of the program and having lost a few hours. Final result to follow by August 15th…
Day 1 done!
We got the 1FM Plat in ~11 hours! Was aiming for 13 given it was my first run, but if not for forgetting to save once this would’ve been closer to the 10 hour mark!
In regarding 11 hours we’ll start with Re:CoM so get ready 😀 pic.twitter.com/jf2jDLcqlZ— desa (@desa3579) August 7, 2022
FIRST EVER PLATINUM TROPHY OF RE:CHAIN OF MEMORIES!!!
Surprised that I was able to finish this in less than 20 hours despite the length of the level grind for both Sora and Riku
Day 2 complete, now on to Day 3 with Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix 😀 pic.twitter.com/6PiDb3qW29— desa (@desa3579) August 11, 2022
If the idea seems completely crazy, it’s also an original way to wait before getting your hands on the next opus. Besides, if Kingdom Hearts IV was announced as being in development on the occasion of the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebration, it is not expected to be released anytime soon and remains a mystery nonetheless.
