More frequent nightmares after COVID

A new study shows that people who have had COVID are more likely to have nightmares.

“We know that with the pandemic, people have the impression of having more dreams, dreams that are more emotional and more nightmares,” explains Nadia Gosselin, scientific director at the Center for Advanced Studies in Sleep Medicine.

According to the scientist, this might be explained by the fact that many people working from home have shifted their sleep schedules and sleep longer in the morning.

“It’s the morning when we have the most dreams or nightmares,” says Ms. Gosselin.

She therefore believes that it is “normal” for people who have had COVID to have more nightmares since these are a reflection of the day and the emotions experienced.

If a person with COVID has rather negative emotions and finds themselves isolated at home, this may explain the increase in nightmares.

“Sleep is closely linked to our mood, to depression, to anxiety,” argues the scientist.
