Before sending people to the moon once more, NASA is launching a test phase with… an iPad.
It has been several decades since NASA last sent an astronaut to the moon. The latest were part of the various missions Appollo. But the United States never buried its dream of space conquest. In the next few days, a test mission will take place.
Mission Artemis 1: an iPad in orbit
With no possibilities to send humans into orbit, NASA decided to send an iPad. Concretely, the space agency wants to establish a transmission between the ship and the control center via an iPad and the voice assistant of Amazon Alexa. This project named Callisto must be a technological demonstration born of a partnership between NASA and Lockheed Martin.
Indeed, the objective is that the iPad reacts like a real astronaut and communicates by drawing from the data saved via a videoconferencing system and Alexa.
For information, the Artemis 1 mission will begin on August 29, 2022 with the launch of the new SLS (Space Launch System) rockets and the Orion spacecraft.
