The body of a man was discovered in a burnt-out car on Monday followingnoon in Lonzée, near Gembloux. Alerted by a local resident who had seen a column of smoke, the firefighters thought they had to put out a brush fire. When they arrived there, a vehicle was burning. In the back was the victim.
The police and the prosecution went to the scene and an investigating judge was appointed. Confirming the information from the newspaper L’Avenir, the prosecutor of the King of Namur indicates that it is a voluntary homicide. The autopsy performed on the charred body concluded that the victim was dead before the car was intentionally set on fire.
DNA analysis and a jaw examination should help identify the victim. The investigators seem to have a serious lead, but they are proceeding cautiously.
As for the cause of death and the motive of the crime, the King’s prosecutor abstains from any comment.
