Ajla Del Ponte will ultimately not compete in the 100m individual at the European Championships in Munich. Less than 24 hours following snatching her qualification on the track, she gave up on her own.
“I don’t feel competitive enough to achieve my initial goals of a final and a medal.writes the Ticino woman on social networks. I will, however, be present for the 4x100m relay.”
Wednesday in Langenthal, Ajla Del Ponte had won the 3rd Swiss ticket for this 100m in Munich thanks to her victory in 11”30 ahead of her direct opponent Géraldine Frey (11”34).
Fifth in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics in the 100m, Ajla Del Ponte is going through a complicated summer exercise following suffering a thigh injury during the winter season. She mightn’t do better than 11”26 so far in 2022 on the straight, following running in 10”90 last summer.
