Unsurprisingly, activities that engage the intellect are most effective: reading or writing for pleasure, watching television, listening to the radio, playing games or musical instruments, and crafts. reduce the likelihood of suffering from cognitive decline by 23%.

But physical activities are not left out. Regarding the practice of walking, running, swimming, cycling, using exercise machines, sports, yoga and dance, researchers found that people who practiced these activities were at risk dementia lower by 17%.

Social activities

Finally, the researchers reveal that people who participate in social activities that involve communication with others and include attending a class, joining a social club, volunteering, visiting relatives or friends, or participation in religious activities. had a 7% lower risk of dementia.

The meta-analysis was a review of 38 studies from around the world involving a total of more than 2 million people who did not have dementia. The participants, followed for at least three years, provided information on their leisure activities through questionnaires or interviews.
