A blind man and his family were attacked for the second time by burglars on Monday in Ambositra. The police neglected him when he came to file a complaint.
Burglars have given no quarter to their victims. For the second time, they attacked Jean Romuald Randrianilainahery, blind, Monday at 1am, in Alakamisy Ambohimiadana, in the town of Ambositra.
The same armed assailants had already broken into the victim’s home on the night of Thursday, August 4. Admittedly, Romuald did not see them because he has been blind since the age of 2, but he recognized them by their voice. That night, they smashed the window with a crowbar. They searched the house and picked up what they found. They took away a telephone, the sum of six hundred thousand ariary, clothes and various objects. They beat Romuald, his wife and their 7-year-old son who was screaming for help. They also knocked out his 70-year-old mother who had come to visit.
The police arrived late, twenty minutes following the act. None of the neighbors helped the victims. The window was repaired and protected with a metal grill.
Assaulted
The next day, Romuald, 37, joined the police station to file a complaint. Yet the police confused and neglected him. He went back on Saturday, but was told the manager was on patrol. He came home empty-handed.
However, the criminals were once more at his home the day before yesterday, at 1am. They broke down the main door. They attacked him once more, as well as his mother. They threatened to kidnap her children and turned their room upside down. They destroyed their bunk bed. They stole kitchen utensils, a bicycle, national identity cards and Romuald’s student badge, which works in communication.
The 30-year-old kept a cell phone with which he was able to notify the prefect. But like the first time, the police arrived thirty minutes following the alert.
The house is equipped with surveillance cameras. We don’t know if they work or not. The investigation and the identification of the perpetrators of the act are continuing. A shutdown operation will be carried out in the city, according to a member of the local joint design body (OMC). In fact, two attacks were noted on Monday. Romuald lodged a complaint with the gendarmerie.
