Ángela Losada shares a breathing exercise that helps calm the body and mind

The coach of yoga and mindfulness explains the importance of getting a good night’s sleep and shares a diaphragmatic breathing exercise to achieve an ideal state of relaxation and a restful night’s sleep. Tune in to this episode of Efficiently and follow Angela Losada’s guide to do it.

According to the World Association for Sleep Medicine (WASM), “sleep problems constitute a global epidemic that threatens the health and quality of life of more than 45% of the world’s population”. It has been shown that not having a good sleep cycle increases the risk of heart disease, mental illness and problems in the autoimmune system.

Additionally, the executive director and co-founder of the Royal Society of Public Health (RSHP) Shirley Cramer explained in an interview for the BBC that sleeping poorly results in a decrease in mental health, an increased risk of accidents, a decrease physical performance and attention and learning capacity.

Breathing exercises help combat sleep problems as breathing becomes slower and as a result the brain stops producing stress-related neurotransmitters. This, in turn, helps lower blood pressure, which lowers the risk of high blood pressure, headaches, heart attacks, and strokes.
