Kenya’s Kipyegon narrowly misses a world record in the 1500m

Athletics Olympic champion and world champion Faith Kipyegon just missed the world record over 1,500 meters at the Diamond League meeting in Monte Carlo on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Kenyan ran the second fastest time ever over this distance in 3:50.37 minutes on Wednesday. Only world record holder Genzebe Dibaba from Ethiopia was faster in July 2015, also in Monaco with a time of 3:50.07 minutes.

The sprinters provided further highlights. Jamaican world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the 100 meters in the world’s best time of 10.62 seconds ahead of her compatriot Shericka Jackson, who ran 10.71 seconds. The American Noah Lyles won over 200 meters in a first-class time of 19.46 seconds. At his world title in Eugene in the USA he came even closer to the world record of Jamaica’s ex-star Usain Bolt (19.19 seconds) in 19.31.
