Hatred on the internet: Alma Zadić is now running an information campaign

On Tuesday evening in ZiB 2, Alma Zadić defended the hate-on-the-net package she introduced, which has so far hardly been used by citizens. Nevertheless, she wants to make this better known through “a broad information campaign” and “raising awareness among the police”. However, it would be difficult with internet platforms like Twitter to cooperate. The European “Digital Service Act” is therefore important, although it is not expected to come into force until 2024.

In the “Kellermayr case”, the minister defended the actions of the public prosecutor’s office in Wels, which had assigned the case once morest a German suspect to their colleagues in Munich. However, she confirmed that investigations were taking too long.

Competence in all public prosecutor’s offices

Alma Zadić rejects a public prosecutor’s office specializing in hate online, which is proposed by experts. On the other hand, she favors separate competence centers in all public prosecutor’s offices in the country, which should be introduced “next year at the latest”. The KURIER had already reported on this on Monday: “Every public prosecutor’s office in Austria has to deal with cases of hate on the Internet and cybercrime, so it is necessary to build up the relevant skills across the board.”
