Jeddah: The renovated gate at Salwa, the border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, has been inaugurated. The expanded and increased capacity was also opened for traffic to facilitate the travel of those traveling from Saudi Arabia to watch the World Cup matches. Salwa Gate is on the main road connecting the two countries by land. The border has become operational with the capacity to allow more vehicles to pass through the checkpoint. It has a daily capacity of 24,800 vehicles.
While 12,096 vehicles can enter Qatar, 12,726 vehicles can also enter Saudi Arabia. The modernization work has been completed with a six-fold increase in capacity with more inspection points. There was a capacity of 3000 vehicles to pass through per day. It will also be comfortable for spectators from Saudi and other Gulf countries who cross the border for the World Cup. The Saudi media reported that the Salwa border gate started working as a test from Monday.
Amir Saud Bin Naif, Governor of Saudi Eastern Province, inaugurated the event. Al-Ahsa Governor Amir Saud bin Talal bin Badr and Saudi Passport Director Lt. Gen. Sulaiman Al-Yahya were present at the event. The governor watched the traffic flow following the gate’s capacity was six times higher.
