President Alberto Fernandez yesterday participated in the acts of inauguration of the new president of Colombia Gustavo Petro, the first left-wing leader to occupy the first magistracy in the history of the South American country. During the act, the Argentine president was seen tired and was even photographed at a time when he seems to have fallen asleep. It happened while his Colombian peer was giving his speech.
Before the act, Fernández had had a one-on-one meeting with Petro. “We are in Colombia accompanying President Gustavo Petro in his inauguration,” Fernández wrote on his Twitter account.
The acts, which were held in the Plaza de Bolívar, were also attended by King Felipe VI of Spain; the presidents of Chile, Gabriel Boric; from Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; from the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, and the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, among other leaders, as well as representatives of international organizations, and world leaders from various fields.
After the inauguration ceremony of the Colombian authorities, the Heads of State moved to the Casa de Nariño, seat of the Colombian Presidency, for the formal greeting to the foreign delegations present. Prior to the inauguration ceremony, Alberto Fernández expressed through of that social network: “The opportunities to get together between sister countries and democratically elected governments allow us to discuss issues of interest and common objectives to strengthen Latin American integration.”
