Thanks to American researchers, in-ear headphones are being transformed into a diagnostic tool that detects certain conditions that hinder the ears, Futura-Sciences reported.
With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), scientists at the State University of New York at Buffalo have created a system called “EarHealth”.
To use these headphones, a person must have a smart phone. The headphones then produce a frequency, and this is examined by the AI to create an image representing the user’s ear. Thus, sound signals are sent daily to monitor possible changes in the ear.
At the moment, this system can detect three medical conditions: an earwax plug, a ruptured eardrum and otitis.
After testing with 92 people, the system was found to be 82.6% effective.
