The single health authority of Bolívar state, Manuel Maurera Boyer, reported Tuesday that following the floods in Santa Elena de Uairén they have guaranteed medical attention to the affected population.
He pointed out that 12 sectors were flooded by the overflow of the Uairén River following more than 12 hours of rain last weekend.
“The distribution of water was activated at different points to avoid water infections due to contaminated water, doctors, Civil Protection team in shelters for families affected by their goods and belongings.”
The general medicine and pediatrics team joined in support in the midst of the contingency to care for people with bacterial, viral infections, fever, skin conditions or contaminated water, according to what was said by Dr. Maurera, also president of the Public Health Institute of the region.
For his part, Governor Ángel Marcano reported on Sunday during his visit to Santa Elena the provision of 60 tons of food, medicine and mattresses. The ISP Bolívar representative accompanied the tour and explained that the shipment included antibiotics, anti-inflammatory antipyretics, oral rehydration, creams for skin conditions and injuries, and surgical medical material.
“The Rosario Vera Zurita Hospital was 100% operational with a power plant with all the internal medicine equipment, as well as the sector’s CDI with all the supplies,” alleged the single regional health authority.
Maurera concluded by saying that Environmental Health brought insecticides and more than 500 mosquito nets so that when the river begins to go down they are not affected by vectors such as dengue, malaria, etc.
