Canada is a country that in recent years has shown that its economy can go up thanks to the immigration. Although it is not a highly known country as such, in its 2021 annual report they highlighted that foreigners who live in its territory are present in vital areas such as health, technology, industries and others.
According to the independent research organization, The Conference Board of Canada, immigrants fill high job needs and this contributes to joint growth.

“Temporary and permanent residents can meet the specific needs of the Canadian labor market. According to the Conference Board of Canada, immigration will account for 100% of the growth in the workforce in the next five years.
With these numbers, the Canadian Government plans to house up to 451,000 new permanent residents in 2024 in order to generate more jobs to cover certain professional areas that are in demand.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sets out some goals for the orderly control of citizens into the country. The ranks by category were as follows:
- Economic immigration programs: from 235,000 to 273,000.
- Family reunification programs: from 99 to 117.
- Humanitarian and refugee programs: from 56,000 to 85,000.
According to the 2021 migration report, it reveals that a quarter of the working-age population (25 to 54 years old) residing in Canada is made up of immigrants, making the country one with open borders to live and work.

Canada: economic, family reunification and humanitarian programs
1. Provincial Nominees
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) accepts foreigners who have skills in education and work experience to support the economy of their provinces, not counting Quebec. It is suitable for students, business specialists, entrepreneurs, specialized or semi-skilled workers.
IRCC reminds that each province has specific requirements to participate in the program and to process permanent residence.
2. Workers selected by Quebec
Quebec selects potential skilled workers. One of the requirements is to master French at an oral and written level.
3. Family reunification
It is an alternative that people who are already Canadians have and can sponsor their foreign relatives to have their permanent residence. It covers spouses, children under the age of 21, parents and grandparents.
4) Humanitarian programs
Canada offers a program for refugees who are persecuted, tortured or threatened with death. Once the crisis is over, they must return to their countries of origin.
