including art in the cloister of the parish of Rossau: Braille in art @ art in the corridor

In changing exhibitions, the parish of Rossau shows the diversity of life as reflected in art. Appreciation for the artists and the offer to the visitors to gather new strength for everyday life are made possible here. With works that include Braille, crackthefiresister now invites you to take the time to feel. Not only people whose sense of sight is limited should be invited to go on a journey of discovery, but also sighted people in particular have the opportunity here to consciously enjoy a moment for themselves with the topic of feeling, understanding and pausing.

On August 6, 2022, a guided tour through the exhibition took place, which, in addition to questions regarding the creation of the works and the motivation behind them, also shed light on the reactions of visitors that have been observed so far. Some visitors were particularly surprised by what seemed to be a minor matter: while labels next to pictures and exhibition guides are usually simply practical and organizational components of an exhibition that are not the focus, here they are independent, expanding works.

This includes, for example, Braille dots on colored areas of abstract pictures, which reproduce the colors in Braille in writing, or the Braille texts in wooden frames that describe a flat painted work, but also the exhibition guide, which makes it clear to sighted people what an orientation effort it means if you don’t can see and still want to visit a place like this. A supplementary text is provided for the exhibited textile work for both sighted and non-sighted people, as part of the inscription is only in Braille and another part of the inscription is only in “black writing” on the work.

As part of the “Solidarian open-air summer on Alsergrund” campaign, the exhibition “A camel goes for a walk in Alsergrund” was supposed to take place in the open air in 2021, but for organizational reasons it was shown in the festival hall of the district administration. All 12 banners, which illuminate the topic of “Braille” by going into the origins and use of this script, are now being shown in the cloister of the parish alongside acrylic works, a textile work and text works on cardboard.
“A camel goes for a walk in the Alsergrund” is described on www.crackthefiresister.net/outdoor1 (text and illustrations).

On September 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. there will be a midissage with a reading and a guided tour. You can register for this at info@crackthefiresister.net.

Note: Before that, Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Servite Church.
